About Benson

Father. Husband. Son. Brother. Friend. Coach. Co-worker. Leader. These words describe Benson Louie, who lost his life tragically at the age of 50 in 2017.

Benson was a native San Franciscan who had a passion for volleyball. He was a fierce competitor who translated his on-court experience to coaching. He was recognized as a leader in the Chinese American volleyball community.

A diligent worker, he was known on his UPS route to be friendly and thoughtful.

As a friend, his generosity with his time, energy and talent were unmatched. He approached life with vigor and never backed down from a challenge.

Our Fiscal Plan

The Benson Louie Scholarship Fund is designed to be sustainable for years. Unfortunately, the skyrocketing cost of university threatens to weaken the impact of our scholarships over time.

Continued contributions help us to mitigate the increasing cost of higher education for these well-deserving students.

Our partnership with Friends of Roots, a 510(c)3 non-profit organization, insures the integrity of our selection process and allows us to receive tax-deductible donations.
